When Friends Gather is a beloved and classic McKenna Ryan Holiday quilt. McKenna's woodland friends from her first ever holiday compilation, "A Journey to Light," gather again for another holiday celebration. Old World Santa and his furry entourage follow the Northern Star found in all of McKenna's Christmas designs and look out to the village where packages will be soon delivered. The fun border was intended to feel like little Christmas packages. McKenna's favorite part of this design is the hat on the little birds in the wreath. "I came out to my studio and found my 6~year~old had placed one of my appliqué pieces intended for a snowman on the birds and was beaming with her creation. It had to stay!"

Mckenna used her favorite Hoffman Signature pallet of 1895 batiks and a few Hoffman Holiday batiks for special touches.

Like all of McKenna's work, individual block names are as cute as the design; Dashing Through the Snow, Jingle Bear Rock, Making Spirits Bright, Comfy Cozy are We, Reindeer Games, Nuttin' For Christmas...
