At Home in the Woods is as classic and iconic as it gets. This was McKenna's first multi~block quilt, a style and technique she pioneered. Her goal was to design each block so it could stand alone as an individual art quilt or to be gathered all together into one masterpiece. Notice her trademark features such as the appliques that go over borders and onto other blocks and critters interacting with others across borders telling an overall story. "This design was inspired and created when I returned to the woods of Montana after having been gone a while and I was so happy to be home, where Pine Needles began."

This quilt design especially speaks to the men in our lives. McKenna has so many fun stories to tell including being pulled over by a policeman who when he found out who she was couldn't care less about her expired plates but only wanted to know where he could see ALL her work as his wife had promised him one for his birthday!
